James Coignard was born in 1925 in Tours, France and grew up in Paris. In 1948, he began to study at the Ecole des Arts décoratifs in Nice. In the following year, his first exhibition took place in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, where he settled down in 1956. He was represented in numerous museums and galleries, especially in Europe and in the USA. Along with his works on paper and canvas, he also made tapestries and bronze sculptues. He died 2008 in the South of France.
