Jean Tinguely was born in 1935 in Fribourg, Switzerland. From 1941 to 1944 he undertakes an apprenticeship in interior design. In 1952, he moves to Paris where he started to make his first kinetic constructions. Three years later he met Niki de Saint Phalle and Yves Klein. In 1960 a group of artists comes together under the name Nouveaux-Réalistes, realizing group shows, performances and happenings in Europe, UNS and Japan. Tinguely is regarded as the main representative for kinetic art and represented in worldwide museums and galleries.
Tinguely dies in 1991 in Bern.
